CATIA version 5 release 16
The Part Design application makes it possible to design precise 3D mechanical parts with an intuitive and flexible user interface, from sketching in an assembly context to iterative detailed design. Part Design application will enable you to accommodate design requirements for parts of various complexities, from simple to advanced.
This application, which combines the power of feature-based design with the flexibility of a Boolean approach, offers a highly productive and intuitive design environment with multiple design methodologies, such as post-design and local 3D parameterization.
As a scalable product, Part Design can be used in cooperation with other current or future companion products such as Assembly Design and Generative Drafting. The widest application portfolio in the industry is also accessible through interoperability with CATIA Solutions Version 4 to enable support of the full product development process from initial concept to product in operation.
Sketcher in
a Nutshell
Sketcher application makes it possible for designers to sketch precise and rapid
2D profiles.
Assembly Design allows the design of assemblies with an intuitive and flexible
user interface.
As a scalable workbench, Assembly Design can be cooperatively used with other
current companion products such as Part Design and Generative Drafting.
The widest application portfolio in the industry is also accessible through
interoperability with Solutions Version 4 to enable support of the full product
development process from initial concept to product in operation.
Digital Mock-Up (DMU) Navigator inspection capabilities can also be used to
review and check your assemblies. Interactive, variable-speed techniques such as
walk-through and fly as well as other viewing tools let you visually navigate
through large assemblies.
The Assembly Design User's Guide has been designed to show you how to create an
assembly starting from scratch. This book aims at illustrating the several
stages of creation you may encounter.
Interactive Drafting in a Nutshell
Version 5 Interactive Drafting is a new generation product that addresses 2D
design and drawing production requirements.
Interactive Drafting is a highly productive, intuitive drafting system that can
be used in a standalone 2D CAD environment within a backbone system. It also
expands the Generative Drafting product with both integrated 2D interactive
functionality and an advanced production environment for the dress-up and
annotation of drawings. This provides an easy and smooth evolution from 2D to
3D-based design methodologies.
Interactive Drafting offers upward compatibility with Version 4, making it
possible to browse or complete, in Version 5, drawings started with Version 4.
The Interactive Drafting User's Guide has been designed to show you how to
create drawings of varying levels of complexity. There are several ways of
creating a drawing and this documentation aims at illustrating the different
stages of creation you may encounter.
Generative Drafting in a Nutshell
Version 5 Generative Drafting is a new generation product that provides users
with powerful functionalities to generate drawings from 3D parts and assembly
definitions.
The Generative Drafting User's Guide has been designed to show you how to
generate drawings of varying levels of complexity, as well as apply dimensions,
annotations and dress-up elements to these drawing.
Functional Tolerancing & Annotation in a Nutshell
Functional Tolerancing & Annotation lets you easily define and manage 3D
tolerance specifications and annotations directly on 3D parts or products.
The intuitive interface of the product provides an ideal solution for new
application customers in small and medium-size industries, looking to reduce
reliance on 2D drawings, and increase the use of 3D as the master representation
for driving from design to manufacturing engineering process.
Annotations in Functional Tolerancing & Annotation can be extracted, using the
annotation plane concept in the Generative Drafting product.
Finally, the 3D annotations can be reviewed using ENOVIA - DMU Dimensioning &
Tolerancing Review 1 product (DT1) or DELMIA - DMU Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Review 2 product (MTR), which offers comprehensive tools for interpretation of
annotations and tolerances on specific areas of the design or across the
complete digital mockup.
This manual is intended for users who need to specify tolerancing annotations on
3D parts or on 3D products. It assists designers in assigning the correct
tolerances on the selected surfaces by:
Selecting the surfaces to be toleranced.
Choosing among the available options, the tolerance types, the modifiers, etc.
The system offers a choice of options which are consistent with the selected
surfaces.
Entering the tolerance value. The tolerance annotation is then created and
displayed around the 3D geometry. It is also located and oriented in an
annotation plane, using a standardized model (usual standards: ISO, ASME /
ANSI).
As a consequence, designers do not need to wonder whether the tolerancing syntax
is correct, because this syntax is directly elaborated with regard to the chosen
tolerancing standards (ISO, ASME / ANSI).
Designers are ensured that their tolerancing schema is consistent with the part
geometry. They do not need to be tolerancing experts, having in mind all the
complex standardized tolerancing rules. Moreover, the tolerancing specifications
will remain consistent whatever the geometrical modifications are.
Generative Shape Design in a Nutshell
The Generative Shape Design workbench allows you to quickly model both simple
and complex shapes using wireframe and surface features. It provides a large set
of tools for creating and editing shape designs and, when combined with other
products such as Part Design, it meets the requirements of solid-based hybrid
modeling.
The feature-based approach offers a productive and intuitive design environment
to capture and re-use design methodologies and specifications.
This new application is intended for both the expert and the casual user. Its
intuitive interface offers the possibility to produce precision shape designs
with very few interactions. The dialog boxes are self explanatory and require
practically no methodology, all defining steps being commutative.
As a scalable product, Generative Shape Design can be used with other Version 5
products such as Part Design and FreeStyle Shaper and Optimizer. The widest
application portfolio in the industry is also accessible through
interoperability with CATIA Solutions Version 4 to enable support of the full
product development process from initial concept to product in operation.
This User's Guide has been designed to show you how to create and edit a surface
design part. There are numerous techniques to reach the final result. This book
aims at illustrating these various possibilities.
