§ CEO Burl C. Adkins honored with Distinguished Volunteer Award on Nov. 18 in Dearborn, Mich.
DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 18, 2004 - Burl C. Adkins, company founder, chairman and CEO of Global Technology Associates, Ltd. was honored with the Distinguished Volunteer Award to celebrate his ongoing involvement and philanthropic work with The Guidance Center in Southgate.
In addition to leading one of southeast Michigan’s top providers of engineering services to the automotive industry, Adkins still manages to find the time to give back. Through his dedication and commitment to The Opportunity Center, a non-profit community program sponsored by the Guidance Clinic, many at-risk children and their families have received crucial mentoring and enrichment.
The annual Holiday Card sale which features the artwork of children from The Opportunity Center has become one of Adkins pet projects. So successful is the campaign, that it raised enough money to fund the program in its entirety for each of the last three years in which he was involved.
“Burl has become a critical champion of our volunteer efforts,” said Richard Martin, director of development for The Guidance Center. “He has offered his network of colleagues and friends to our fundraising activities to realize the much needed support for under-funded at-risk programs.”
Co-chairman of “Night of the Stars”, an annual award and fundraising event for the Center, Adkins was instrumental in bringing in $52,000 at this year’s event at the Gem Theatre to help fund its vital programs.
Adkins will be presented the award at the13th annual National Philanthropy Day Dinner which is hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ on Thursday, November 18th, 5:30 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn, MI.
