The Guidance Center, established in 1958, is a behavioral health and human services agency that offers more than 40 different programs and serves nearly 11,000 children, adults and families each year throughout Southeast Michigan.
“For evolving with the times, managing a diverse array of services and remaining entrepreneurial in meeting its clients’ needs,” Crain’s Detroit Business named The Guidance Center the 2004 Best-Managed Nonprofit among organizations with annual budgets of more than $3 million.  Judges for Crain’s specifically highlighted the center’s evolution of growth over the years to meet the needs of the families they serve including the addition of juvenile justice programs, foster care and emergency assistance, as well as substance abuse and vocational counseling as some of their reasons for choosing The Guidance Center.
“We’re very pleased to have been awarded this prestigious honor,” said Michael Lott, CEO of The Guidance Center.  “As I told Crain’s, we don’t have a quitting point.  The mental and behavioral health industry has changed dramatically over the years, and the needs of the children and families we serve are much different than when we began over 40 years ago.  We will continue to grow with our community, developing programs when needs arise, expanding existing programs as needs change and constantly evaluating our effectiveness while we strive for the best quality possible – both programmatically and administratively.”
